When a stun gun is used on an person, why is the 'stun' not transfered to people in contact with the target?

I have told that when using an electroshock weapon (stun gun) that there is no risk of the 'shock' being transfered to an individual who is in physical contact with the target. Having seen demonstrations, I believe this to be true. My question is why; what is the scientific explanation for the 'shock' failing to transfer to another body?

In this case the current does not to grounded through the person's feet, the current passes between the two probes that embed themselves in the body.
