The taser has the most potent take down power of all non lethal self defense weapons. Like any weapon, learning how to use it properly is a wise thing to do. Here's how:
--INSTALL THE BATTERIES: Make sure the safety on the taser is in the safe position before inserting 8 AA batteries. Also insure no cartridge is installed. Press the battery cover cock pin and slide the battery cover out of the handle and remove. Load the batteries and reinsert the magazine into the handle. The magazine will not load properly unless the magazine is inserted correctly. The unit is live once the safety is armed so be careful. If installed correctly a red heartbeat light will flash.
--LOAD AIR CARTRIDGES: Snap the cartridge in place. Easy for quick reloading. Make sure safety is in he down position or locked. As soon as it is loaded the weapon will fire. There's no up or down on the cartridge unit so it can't be mishandled. The cartridges carry the probes, taser wire, and compressed air. Never try to open the cartridges.
--HOW TO HOLD: Hold as though a sidearm. Always keep your fingers away from the front of the unit. Always have the safety on before removing a loaded air cartridge.
--PRACTICE FIRING: Set up a target approx 15' away and learn to recognize and judge the distance. Keep the unit level-never tilt it sideways. That may misdirect the second dart. Do not touch the front of the unit. When you are ready to fire, flip the safety up. A red light will go on indicating the unit is ready. Depress the trigger switch. There is no recoil. For every 7' of distance to the target there is approximately 1 ' of separation in the darts allowing for a greater coverage area.
--STUN GUN BACKUP: In the unlikely event you miss and have no more cartridges there is a stun gun backup with the taser. There are two stun electrodes on the front of the unit. They should be actively and aggressively depressed into the assailant's neck area.
